Events Celebrating 500 Years

In 2012 Lewes Old Grammar School will be celebrating its quincentenary anniversary and we are planning to hold various events during the year to celebrate this milestone.

A sub committee is currently co-ordinating this very exciting project and below is an outline diary of the various activities that are proposed.

It is hoped that guests and past & present staff, students and parents will wish to join in and attend as many of the events and performances as they can.

Building on the original work by Tim Burton - a former student - a book on the history of LOGS is being compiled - any information would be most welcome.

Grand Lewes Firework Display

                      Sunday 8th January

Reception to be held at Lewes Castle

Naming of Rooms & Buildings

                                  Date : tbc

Details of rooms and buildings to be named will be issued in due course.
It will include the names of people associated with the school - past and present - who have contributed most to its development.
March
LOGS Music & Arts Festival 2012
at Glyndebourne

                           Sunday 25th March

A prestigious Music and Drama production for students, staff - past and present - and parents and guests.
We will be celebrating all aspects of art, music and drama throughout history from 1512 to the present day.

New Classrooms & Laboratory

& School Founders Day Parade through Lewes
                         
                         Friday  25th May 2012

at 12.00 noon - Official Opening of the new classrooms and laboratory at Mead House

at 2.00pm - the whole school community will parade from Paddock Lane, down the High Street and back to the Paddock. 
Each department will depict a period of the school’s 500 year history through costume and tableaux. 
This will culminate with a whole school picnic on the Paddock, Paddock Lane

Junior School Sports Day
                            
                              20th June 2012

The Morley House Sports Day will take place at the Paddock from 2.00pm
July
Grand Summer Ball

               Saturday 7th July at Firle Place

Tickets for this event are available from Stephanie Gould, 140 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex.  Tickets are £75 each. 
There will be dancing to the Ice Cream Bikinis until 1.00pm. 
The event includes a massive firework display.

Senior School Sports Day
                            
                               11th July 2012

at Lewes Running Track - Ben Hawes (GB Hockey team) will attend this Senior Sports day
( if not involved with team GB that day )
November
Lewes Bonfire Procession 

                         5th November 2012

It is hoped that members of LOGS will be taking part in the procession for this special year.
December
Commemorative Church Service

& House Suppers

                       13th December 2012

7.00pm - The service will be held at St Johns Sub Castro Church, Lewes.

8.00pm - House Suppers, Town Hall, Fisher Street, Lewes.
