Ashton International College, Ballito South Africa
As part of the 2012 Quincentenary celebrations LOGS has established a link with a school in South Africa - Ashton International College - in Ballito in the province of Kwazulu Natal near Durban on the eastern seaboard of South Africa
Ashton College (AIC) is also a co-educational independent school and has both junior and a senior departments
They too pride themselves on being a family community and on combining excitement and innovation with traditional values and teaching & thus ensuring that their students develop - like LOGS students - into well balanced adults
Whilst LOGS has been in existence since 1512, AIC are relatively 'new' in terms of educational history as they have only been part of South African Education for just over 10 years starting off in 1998 with their first campus in Benoni and then opening their new campus in Ballito in January 2010
Already DVDs and videos and other information from LOGS Morley House, LOGS Senior School English, Maths, Music, Sport, History and Geography departments has been exchanged
We are over the coming months going to continue to expand these contacts and learn more about their school life, culture and heritage (plus their experiences of the FIFA World Cup !)
The Nigerian National football team have been based near AIC and have been using one of Ashton’s football pitches for competition practice.
During February half-term in 2011 LOGS are undertaking the first part of a Student/Staff exchange taking a party of 40 students and 6 members of staff to Ballito to meet their counterparts in South Africa & experience South African education
We will be taking part in sporting fixtures and learning about their culture through dance and music and staying with school hosts.
In 2012 we will then welcome Ashton students & staff back to LOGS to experience British culture in Lewes, Sussex and be part of our 500 year celebrations.
