A Day in the Life of Nursery . . . . .
All times are approximate as we believe in the non interruption of children’s learning. We are flexible in our approach and take our lead from children’s daily ideas and experience
This is a typical 3 hour Nursery session
9.00am Our session begins
Children arrive and are greeted happily at the door by a member of the nursery team. Children are encouraged to find their own personalised name peg and then coats, book bags and lunch boxes are all put away in their place.
Parent/carers are requested to stay and help encourage their child to follow a daily routine of choosing a job. They find their own name card and place it next to their chosen responsibility on the job board.
A selection of activities are on offer within the various learning areas : malleable, make & do, role-play, mark making, exploration & investigation, ICT, small world, construction, music, numeracy, literacy, sand and water. Children are independent in selecting and carrying out activities until everyone has arrived.

9.15am CircleTime
We get together as a group to call the register, sing, change the weather board and general conversation. Circle time activities are also planned as a focused activity during the session. Circle time bear joins in the fun too! He helps encourage good circle time skills such as sitting, listening, speaking, looking, thinking and concentrating.
9.30am Activity Time
Children continue to choose different learning areas to visit within the indoor and outdoor learning environments. Their experiences are explored through a variety of child initiated play and adult focused activities throughout the morning.
10.30am Tidy-upTime
“Stop and Listen” is called. Children are encouraged to choose an activity to tidy and put away once they have finished their learning experience, before washing their hands for snack.

10.40am Snack time
The children serve each other with cups, plates, milk and water jugs and help each other pour their own drink. A selection of fresh fruit is offered during the morning session and a variety of different food in the afternoon including dried fruit, rice cakes, crackers, toast, raw vegetables and dips. Practitioners sit with the children at all meals promoting conversation (including healthy eating) and polite table manners.
11.00am Story time
We come together as a group for story time and circle time bear makes another appearance !
11.15am Activity time
We have opportunities to access a variety of facilities and resources throughout the school including other outdoor learning areas during our nursery sessions. These include the hall, reception classroom, library and ICT suite.
11.45am Singing time
We always come together as a group for singing, dancing and ring games before the end of each session.

Our early learning goals suggest what we should expect children to know and be able to do by the end of the Reception Year of their education.
Each child is an individual and each child has their own developmental pathway which we plan showing how they will best achieve their early learning goals.
In each case we provide activities which promote play which, particularly in the nursery, we see as the seedbed for success.
Play helps young children learn and develop through doing and talking, which research confirms to be the means by which young children think.
In some of the activities provided children will decide how they will use them, and in others, an adult takes the lead in helping the children take part.
In all activities, information from the developmental stages and the early learning goals is used to decide what equipment to provide and how to provide it.
