As adults, we all share concerns that children are leading more sedentary lifestyles, and at Morley House, we are addressing this through our Forest School programme. We have developed a unique partnership with the Forest School at Plumpton College, and from Pre-Reception through to Year 6, our pupils experience a diverse range of outdoor learning activities, helping them to develop as individuals whilst enhancing our academic curriculum.
Anyone who has taken children outside regularly has seen the enjoyment and sense of wonder and excitement that is generated when children actively engage with their environment. At Plumpton, our children take part in activities that stretch them and build their confidence and self-esteem. They make fires, use tools, and learn to take managed risks. Different classes visit a Stone Age Hill Fort, help in the excavation of a Roman Villa, and learn about ecology and the importance of protecting the natural world. Building shelters, tracking animals and survival skills provide a range of exciting experiences.
