On Thursday 1st July the day for the long awaited Year 5 and 6 trip to Le Touquet, France arrived. It was an early start for all 42 students and their teachers, who boarded the coach bound for Ashford International and the Euro-tunnel at 6.00am
The Euro-tunnel was itself an experience for many of our day trippers – how was that very big coach going to manoeuvre into that gap - somehow it did !
Around mid-day local French time we arrived at Le Touquet on the French Opal Coast – just in time to enjoy the golden sandy beach.
After eating our packed lunches, we paddled in the shallow pools of sea-water glistening in the sun before heading for the Aqualud water theme park
Our disappointment at the outside pools being shut was quickly forgotten after entering the water park and discovering the exciting rides to be tried out and even better the twice hourly Giant Wave machine ! !
We did not want to leave but the town of Le Touquet beckoned
We were divided into groups and given time to explore Le Touquet and complete our language activities.
Some made it to the ‘Place du Marché’ – an open market square and also ‘La Poste’ - the post office but many took to the shops to buy souvenirs and of course ‘une crème glacée’- an ice-cream. Anyone for ‘une glacée bleue’ ? – a blue ice-cream
All too quickly it was time to board our coach again and head back towards the Euro-tunnel terminal for a wholesome dinner ‘poulet avec frites et legumes’ (chicken with french fries and vegetables) topped off with some ‘millefeuille' or ‘éclair’
The day had flown by and ended with many students asking “Can we go back soon” - maybe next year ?
Will Le Touquet become a new LOGS tradition ? Time will tell !
