Lower Sixth Debating Team win First Prize

On Wednesday 11th March at Sussex University Alex Sherwood, Alex Pitharides, Danielle Harmer-Stange, Will Winter and Will Oates took part in a lively debate over possible solutions to the problem of climate change

The debate looked at two aspects of a possible answer - a technological fix and also behavioural change

As part of National Science and Engineering Week the ESRC Festival of Social Science provided a fascinating insight into some of the country’s leading social science research and how it can influence our social, economic and political lives both now and in the future

Climate change is indeed one of the biggest challenges faced by global society today.

The Sussex Engineering Group at Sussex University had selected teams of sixth formers to deliberate possible solutions to climate change

The debate was held in the Freeman Centre in front of a panel of Sussex based Researchers, Politicians, Business people and Activists interested in climate change - along with an invited audience

The achievement by the Lower Sixth Team in winning outright was even greater as they were only invited to take part in the debate at the last minute due to the withdrawal of another team

Consequently the LOGS Team had only a week rather than a month to prepare

First prize resulted in £500 worth of book tokens for the school library
