LOGS has been ‘Stepping up'

to support Lewes Castle

with Step Days’

Friday 5th & Monday 8th December 2008

Lewes Old Grammar School is keen to support its very historic neighbour, Lewes Castle, which is currently undergoing a progammme of improvements.

One of these projects is the replacement of the 120 steps up to the castle mound. The whole school decided to support ‘A Step in History’ which involved raising £500 to purchase the step.

In order to raise the money required for this new step at the Castle a variety of sponsored events were held on Friday 5th December and Monday 8th December.

The Senior School pupils and staff held -

                           The Keere Street Challenge
                              Between 10.45am – 1pm

Timed trials took place up the street with both pupils and staff having to pay for the pleasure of entering. Some pupils seem to even have the energy to have more than one go !

Other events taking place supporting Step Day included

  • An sponsored Aerobics Class was held in the White Hart Hotel
  • Three Legged football match took place
  • Cinema-Style film show with old fashioned popcorn (!) was held over two lunchtimes
  • Mr Blewitt wore a pedometer from 7.30am – 4.30pm on Friday and then at the Christmas Fair on Saturday 6th December.

For 30p a guess, people tried to estimate how far he had walked. The guesses ranged from 1000 to 18,000 and the correct amount was 5742 paces !

                                         ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The Junior School at Morley House held their ‘Step Day’ on Monday 8th December when the prefects laid coins - brought in by the children - up the stairs in Morley House and the children then paid to guess at what point they thought the trail would end.

In addition, the Dance teacher held dance sessions between 3pm and 4pm on Monday where the children danced to Music by ' Steps '
