Christmas Market at Aachen, Gemany - Visit by Years 7 & 8

Our trip to a Christmas Market in Germany

Just after midnight Years 7 & 8 left on a coach – all very excited and despite the hour not at all tired !

We were to travel to Aachen in Germany. The journey was via the Eurotunnel which disappointed some as it only lasted about 30 minutes but we soon found themselves in Germany.

On arrival the first point of call was to visit a lovely historic café and have breakfast which consisted of rolls, bread and croissants and wonderful hot chocolate.

Then it was time to explore the large Christmas market in the middle of Aachen.

It was difficult to know where to go first as they were so many beautiful stalls, each displaying decorations that are quite different from British ones.

In addition there were Merry Go Rounds, Santa’s Hats, mulled wine, presents to buy and of course food to try !

Everyone had a great time and many even tried out their German !

After lunch, the afternoon included more exploring and being shown around the magnificent cathedral.

Our overnight stay was spent at a medieval castle - well really it was a youth hostel, but to the surprise of everyone was quite modern inside.

The next morning after breakfast and more delicious hot chocolate the morning was spent at the Christmas market in Monschau.

Unfortunately it rained most of the time but it was still great fun. The town has a river running through it, some castle ruins and it was remarked that “our castle hostel” could be seen nestling up on the hillside.

After lunch LOGS students and teachers bought up half the market, and of course had more hot chocolate with lots of cream before setting off home to Lewes happy but now slightly tired

It was a great trip and we saw many exciting and different things”

"The German market was facinating"

- Beth Webster, David Hartley and Lily Simmons
