Lewes Castle and Barbican House Museum were officially opened by HRH The Duke of Kent on 3rd November 2009 after improvements to upgrade accessibility and interpretation of this famous landmark had taken place during the winter of 2008/09.
As previously reported LOGS pupils were keen to support their very historic neighbour and decided to support ‘A Step in History’ which involved raising £500 to replace one of the steps up to the castle mound.
A variety of sponsored ‘Step’ events were held during December 2008 and these included :
The ‘Keere Street Challenge’
Time trials took place up the very steep street with both pupils and staff having to pay for the pleasure of entering. Some pupils seem to even have the energy to have more than one go !
- An Aerobics class
- A Three legged football match
- Film shows which to the pupils delight included pop corn
- Mr Blewitt wearing a pedometer from 7.30am – 4.30pm on a Friday and then at the Christmas Fair people tried to estimate how far he had walked. The guesses ranged from 1000 to 18,000 and the correct amount was 5742.
- Morley House prefects laid coins, brought in by the children, up the stairs in Morley House and the pupils paid to guess where they thought the trail would end.
- The Morley House dance teacher held sessions where the children danced to 'Steps' Music
Everyone is pleased to see the result of all their efforts now in place on the spectacular walk up to the top of the Castle Mound
