On Tuesday 14th September the eminent TV pundit & scientist Dr Heinz Wolff visited Lewes Old Grammar School to give a presentation to parents, staff and students on the theme
‘ The future is coming and it may be sooner than you think ’
The invitation was open to the public community of Lewes. There was a large turnout, especially from parents who were eager to see the hero of TV & their youth !
Most of the audience expected Professor Wolff to talk about technology but he surprised us by proposing that social reorganisation would be more important than forever expanding our computing power
This was thought provoking and he stressed relevant
to our modern times
The Professor talked lucidly on a range of subjects but his central idea was the creation of a ‘care bank’ where care for the elderly in the community would be paid back in later life
In the context of the ‘greying society’ his idea was one interesting solution
A challenging question and answer session followed
As a final reflection Heinz urged the audience ‘to think whenever they have any free time
His lecture has certainly given us a lot to think about !
